BRSTL002 – Outboxx

Dusty drums, dubbed out delays and a broken arp make the intro to the aptly titled A side ‘Power Cruising’. All melting away into an immaculate interlude where the melody fully develops before shifting this convertible into drive, easing it along the interstate powered by a heavy groove and muted bassline, leaving trails of Nord chords behind it as the facetious keyboard solo reflects off the grille. The B side is a timeless, melancholy night time ride through the city, filled with shimmering keys and the velvet vocals of Naomi Jeremy, ‘Speeding through space and time, you’re on my mind, you’re on my mind...’. Her lyrics flow through the track, and careful use of reverb keeps things moving along with serious elegance. Outboxx, once again, make it sound completely effortless...the way great House music should be. Pressed in a limited, vinyl only edition, distributed through Idle Hands, Bristol. Notes on the artwork - While I was interviewing Outboxx for a piece in the first Tape-Echo publication, they took my notebook off me and all started scribbling lyrics in it, the scanned page on the insert is Naomi’s first draught of ‘Through The Night’. The Outboxx logo is based on type found on a cardboard box down the road from their studio.
