From The Reels – A NoCorner Collection

NoCorner, the Bristol based label who have just put out their eighth release and are in their second year of operation have just announced plans to release three of their existing titles on vinyl. Update - The Records which are to be included in the box set have arrived back from the pressing plant. Mastered by Lewis at Stardelta, we can assure you they sound outstandingly good and are pressed to a pristine standard, expect no less. It may be a few more weeks until the full product is launched… from screenprints, to risograph inserts, hand-bound booklets and further d.i.y graft, the NoCorner label have assured us that they want to make sure it is presented with full care and attention to detail. An additional, fluorescent yellow 7" is also part of the set, making up the mysterious fourth record in the collection… a clue can be found in the latest picture. These 7"s will be labelled with dymo tags and titled with a letter-stamp, packaged in a sticky, pungent polythene sleeve, keeping the aesthetic in line with the cassettes, which were cling-fimed and titled with a stamped paper cut-out. Followers of the NoCorner cassette output may remember the additional flo green tape that came with El Kid's 'Labyrinths EP' sometime at the end of 2012, which featured the much lauded Vessel remix of El Kid's standout 'We Need Mirrors' track… but this cassette featured only this one track, surely NoCorner wouldn't leave a whole side of the 7" blank? Here's another picture to whet your appetite… and if you look closely you may be able to take another guess at which other cassette is to be manifested onto vinyl format…. Spanning three discs this project is a big step for the small label, but, if their previous attention to detail in presentation is anything to go by, this project is one well worth keeping an eye on. They have agreed to keep us up to date as the project unfolds so keep checking back as we will be adding to this article every couple of days. Previously the label has released a wide and diverse range of music from Jabu, Killing Sound, Kahn & Neek, El Kid, Federsen, Filter Dread, Lily and most recently, Seekers International. The cassette format suits the labels experimental approach perfectly so it will be interesting to see just what material from their catalogue they decide to commit to vinyl. So far all the releases on the label have been only been available on cassette in limited numbers, never more than 100 of each half that number of the earlier releases. Demand for these limited runs is reflected in the discogs prices, it will be a relief for those who may have gaps in their collection or lack a cassette player, that some of the NC catalogue will be seeing vinyl. This isn't the first time NoCorner has made the leap into the vinyl world though, in 2013 they released the sublime 'Move In Circles' / 'You & I' (Kahn RMX) by Jabu. There is no word just yet on which titles will be on this release which is entitled 'From The Reels - A NoCorner Collection' but when the information lands, you will read it here first. This multi disc collection will come in a screen printed sleeve and hit shelves in late May. More details and images of the project to follow as and when they land…
