LV VA 7-1 – O$VMV$M / SKRSINTL

More musical heat is about to be put on wax via LAVALAVA. This time it's a 7" disc, and it comes pressed up in a limited run ahead of the full LV VA compilation. Now scheduled for 2021 - the full compilation has been delayed slightly, because, in the words of label boss Ossia "the project has outgrown its own expectations, and now needs time to be presented adequately, and to find it's own balance before it can be unveiled in full, so I decided to keep putting out singles and EPs on wax, until the time is right to re-present everything together, in the hope of drawing out the lifespan of all the music featured on the compilation, and also to make it possible to digest the wide range of music over a longer period of time and in different ways - I don't want the sounds to get lost in a wash of slapdash compilation fodder, as it can sometimes happen when many tracks are released in one big bang". With this in mind, and following that four track upfront 12" with Lurka, NKC x Bakongo, SUDS & Zoe McPherson from earlier this year, the next offering via the label brings together a set of oddball bangers from two outfits that tread a shared ground between abstracted dubwise technique and a deadly knack for creating deceivingly subtle, yet rather anthemic rhythms and melodies... It's fair to say that O$VMV$M and SKRSINTL are two names that have reached a certain cult status in the underground over the years, with various releases on labels such as NoCorner, Idle Hands, Bokeh Versions, ICS Library, Young Echo, and now both also via LAVALAVA Records.... Although some will know it's not the first time that the duo of Sam Barrett and Amos Childs (aka O$VMV$M) appear on the label - The 2nd release on LV, the 'Lion' 7" with Rider Shafique on vocals, was indeed produced by them too, and provides the perfect counterpart to 'Alaarm' in the sense that it's an equally dancehall indebted style of O$ tune. By the way, we heard there might be a vocal cut on this 'Alaarm' rhythm to follow too, straight out of Jamaica... But in the meantime, please feel free to soak up the instrumental niceness from SKRS & O$ on this 7" disc... A much needed dose of positive vibes, to counteract the cold & dark winter months to come. The 7's, pressed up in a ltd run of 300, will ship out via RWDFWD.COM and all good record stores worldwide, from 26/11/20...
